March 4thI elected to switch the Employee Engagement Recap post with my Wednesday post. And why would I want to do that?  Well, today is March 4th or should I say March Forth!   It is a day to “remember that thoughts have to be turned into actions and that to succeed one has to set a course and march forth toward it.”1 (page 76)

While I was earning my MBA from the Goizueta Business School – Emory University, I read a book called Thinking for a Living by Joey Reiman. It really struck a chord with me and I mentioned to Mark, a fellow classmate, that I wanted to figure out a way to meet Mr. Reiman. After all, we both lived in Atlanta. Two weeks later, I got that opportunity. You see, Mark was friends with the Senior Associate Dean and Director of the BBA Program and she happened to be collaborating with Mr. Reiman on a new book.  Not only did I serve as their research assistant but I also became the teaching assistant for Mr. Reiman’s Ideation class. That’s how a book introduced me to March Forth and my friend, Joey Reiman.

While today gives you the opportunity to reflect on all aspects of your life. I want to encourage you to  focus on your engagement in the workplace. Specifically, how can you become more engaged at work and how can you better engage your coworkers, clients, and community? We devote a large portion of our time to our work responsibilities.  If we don’t love what we do (or most of what we do), then we aren’t moving forward; we aren’t making progress toward our goals and dreams.  Today is the day to change that.  As discussed in previous posts, change isn’t easy.  Resistance and procrastination only delay the value of these changes to you as an individual and to those with whom you come in contact at work.

You are responsible for your own engagement as well as the engagement of others so I challenge you to “take the day on” and to begin to move forward on your goals.

How do you planning to March Forth? What other tips can you share on ways to move forward?
